Founded in 1999
The Association was founded in 1999 by an agreement of representatives of organisations of women with breast disease to serve their common economic, legal and informational needs.
The Swedish National Breast Cancer Association (BRO) gave moral support to the idea of the Association and provided the financial resources needed to establish the Association from an anonymous donor.
In 1999-2005 President Laima Bartkevičienė made the first steps and works in order to establish the visibility of the Association and publicly represent the interests of breast cancer patients in health policy at national level and to start the evidence in the international arena.
In 2005-2017 President Juventa Sartatavičienė developed the Association’s activities in the regions, organised annual scientific conferences, expanded cooperation with social partners, represented the interests of patients in the Ministry of Health forums.
In 2007-2014, the project “Head coverings for women with breast cancer” was carried out in cooperation with Vilnius Academy of Arts. At the end of the project in 2015, the book “The Knot of Life” and the technology guides for headgear were published and presented to the public.
In 2015, the Association joined the World Cancer Day campaign “Talking Hands”. The Association contributed by spreading the message – “We can enjoy our lives after therapy!” – “We can enjoy our lives after treatment!
In 2015, the Association actively encouraged Lithuanian MEPs to support the Declaration on Breast Cancer in the European Union, which was signed in 2015, in order to ensure the best possible access to high quality and effective breast cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation services in Lithuania.
From 2017 to 2024 (since 2017, the Association has been headed by Aušra Bružienė) an information campaign on the inclusion of breast implants in the list of reimbursable measures was carried out: the goal was achieved – implants were reimbursed for breast reconstruction for women with breast cancer.
In 2019 series of informative interactive events were launched to disseminate cancer prevention, clinical innovation and healthy lifestyle messages to the general public during major health and beauty fairs.
In 2019-2021 the Association participated in the ongoing national project “Voice of the Crowd”, which aims to identify the medical and psychosocial needs of women with cancer and their relatives and initiate actions to address these needs by interviewing women with cancer and their families.
Since 2017 important projects of the Association have been carried out: “And Life Goes On” (informative events-meetings for women in the regions), “Health Pillows” (kinesiotherapy pillows were produced and given to women in Klaipėda, Kaunas, Vilnius during the COVID-19 pandemic), “Mothers and Daughters Project” (genetic testing is carried out on women who do not have a compensation).
A unique ongoing project for young people “Oncologists to Gymnasium Students” was launched in 2023: oncologists deliver important messages about cancer, its risks and prevention to young people at specialised events in Lithuanian gymnasia.
The Association is a member of the Council of Representatives of Lithuanian Patient Organisations. The Association participates in the Breast Cancer Coalition “Europa Donna”.

Teikiame informaciją apie prevencijos, diagnostikos, gydymo, reabilitacijos, socialinės pagalbos paslaugas;
Siekiame kuo didesnio visuomeninio sergančiųjų aktyvumo, jų gebėjimų ir kompetencijų tobulinimo bei socialinės atskirties mažinimo;
Dedame pastangas, kad Lietuvoje būtų užtikrintas kuo geresnis aukštos kokybės bei veiksmingų krūties vėžio prevencinių, diagnostikos, gydymo ir reabilitacijos paslaugų prieinamumas;
